OVERVIEW

Piquin is a Mexican restaurant with a vivid personality, inspired by folklore. The new restaurant needed an engaging brand that differentiates itself in a saturated market filled with inauthentic experiences and tired tropes. Piquin’s primary target audience are stylish adults, ages 21–32, with a strong focus on cocktails and elevated food pairings. The restaurant also targets families with playful branding and children menu options.

APPROACH

Straying away from overused calaveras and luchadores, I dove deeper into Mexican mythology. Playful illustrations of chupacabra, drawn with influences from wood carvings, are central to the brand story. The vivid color palette is applied with risograph printing for a fluorescent effect with imperfect details. A mix of display typography, illustrations, and ornaments give the menu layouts a loud, boisterous appearance that is deliberately excessive.
